'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith resumes battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith picking up a spectator's eyewear following the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative effort from outside the box, and the defender quickly slammed home the deflection before charging toward the crowd to celebrate, with fans swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory capped an extraordinary turnaround given the team had trailed 2-0 deep into the latter period. During the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. He shared, "There was a spectator shouting out and Josh Key and I were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win secured a fourth-round match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the bar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right defensive wing after Orient changed shape. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the opposition who praised the way his former team played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are exceptional but even the basics and simple things, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they always find their target and they know how to control and slow down a game. You can believe you're all right and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and focus just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at his former club and has swiftly done the same in south Wales. At his previous team he reunited with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford City, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without real physicality. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that maturation for club and country, excelling for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including both legs games against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This marks an incredible journey for the kid from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his father, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's only game for United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they featured on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was shut owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he recalls, smiling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to leave United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "It was relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I understood I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm hugely grateful for the experience gained but it reached a stage where I thought I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

It is the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called player transport, a minibus driven by club employees, the drivers, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with a teammate, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to socialize with the lads but I'm hoping to be the next one out of the minibus and on the road. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would blend in with fans on London's Central line after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
